King Elizabeth that spent a year in bourbon barrels. All hail Elizabeth, the emperor of our production facility in the Bronx. Notice how regal and noble he is. One of his eyes doesn't work and it's mostly closed. With this barleywine we pay our respects to the King.

2021 vintage, on tap at Carmine Street Beers in Manhattan, NY.
It pours fairly flat looking, with a muddy brown hue, not much lacing or head.
From the aroma, it doesn’t appear this has aged well – it’s kind of oxidized on the nose, with stale astringent hops.
This tastes really woody, astringent, and syrupy, all at once – I’m not sure if it hasn’t aged well or the beer is just too old to be kegged this long, it’s hard to know. It somehow still has hop character after being barrel aged and sitting finished for a couple of years. It really tastes like a cheap boilermaker at a grimy dive bar, where the bartender has spit tobacco into the well whiskey, and dropped into a beer that has sat in those tap lines for years. There’s nothing to recommend here.
LThis is flat and dead on the finish, and fairly boozy somehow after 4 years, with just really no drinkability to it.
I really do usually like Torch and Crown but this was honestly really bad.

This is nice, but I think I prefer the regular version. The bourbon plays well with the toffee, fruit, and spice notes but the oak doesn't quite jibe. It dries out the finish more than I'd like. I'm going to stop picking nits and enjoy the rest of this.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours Dark brown with little head. Nose is toffee, tobacco, figs, and bourbon. The taste is excellent. Figs, bourbon, leather, toffee, pears, a bit of maple, prunes, and a bit of leather. Definitely seems more like an English barleywine to me. Mouthfeel is medium to light, and the ABV isn't really detectable. Overall, excellent.

First time with any Crown and Torch. Poured cool to a Glencairn glass, it’s a dark caramel color, slightly turbid. Scant white head that disappeared quickly. Nose is heavy stone fruit, some floral essence on the back. Flavor is heavy stone fruit, murky, muddled. I get barrel wood without any sense of a spirit extraction, so perhaps this was aged on fresh / unused wood? Alcohol bite plays toward the end of the sip to cut a bit of the muddled flavors. Mouthfeel is decent. Overall, it’s neither terrible nor great. I like the cat back-story better, I think.
