(16 oz can, no dates/codes; gifted a single... poured into a fat tulip)
L: deep dark reddish-brown liquid; foam fizzing out upon pour... no collar left; still, foam-free surface
S: bordering-infection phenols, dark-roast coffee grounds, hint of chocolate croissant?; maybe a faint floral undertone... after the foam disappears, it smells cardboard-y and oxidized
T: again, almost a hint of infection... roasted barley and black malt are very naked and expressive front-to-mid sip, while the finish is mildly woody and smoky... you can tell it's got a nice, dry, full and toasty malt foundation, but the aftertaste is thin
F: rather thin, but not quite sizzly... the body has a subtle oily viscosity... eminently drinkable if the taste was on point
O: yeah, I'm going to have to go with the quality here having been degraded... it's a shame - cool name, cool label, and I could tell it's probably a solid, if textbook porter... I'll see if I can snag another can (1731)
