A varnish brown color with a .25 inch tan head. A handsome beer! Big toasted malt, baked pizza crust, and dried flowers on the nose. Tastes are dark caramel, brown bread, and some pecan pie. Medium body. This is a likeable, drinkable, really good beer.

On draught at Frontier Brewing and Taproom.

Pours a beautiful clear mahogany, aboot an inch of foam.

Smells malty, roasted malt, caramel, some hints of smoke.

The taste has a very good malt character, see above, light smoke or is it peat? Whatever, it is very nice.

Medium mouthfeel, very drinkable; only 5.5% abv.

I recommend it.

Now in cans and the abv went to 6%.

maybe i am in the minority, but im not one of those dudes who is going to drink eight scottish ales in a session, its never been that kind of style for me, so when i dip into one, its usually just one, and i want it to fully satisfy me for awhile, scratch that itch completely, and this one comes close. deeply malty, not too sweet, sort of nutty, kilned, rich without being diabetic, carrying a yeast note, an almond hint, toffee, raisin, light spiciness, and an herbal element as well, hearty but with some delicate layers at the same time, real full bodied but well enough carbonated to be pretty drinkable if several of this style is your jam. it also seems real well refined, a little more cleaned up and dialed in that just about all of the rest of their beers i had while i was in town here. a molasses note in the flavor, a toasted warmth, and just a bit of residual sugar, its a nice recipe, smooth to drink on, and autumnal, even wintery to me, but light enough on the alcohol and alive enough feeling to work in any season. this is nothing crazy, but it really doesnt need to be, and i enjoyed sucking this down. among their most popular and best beers in my experience with their stuff.
