Dark body, with a dark brown head. Head production is modest at best, and after a brief fizziness, the head completely dissipates.
Lovely nose, starting off with vanilla, cream, and chocolate, leading to brown sugar, molasses, and toast, and finishing with caramel and red grape. Smells sweet, but not overly so.
Sweeter on the palate, bordering on dessert stout, but still toned down as compared to most pastry stouts (or, say, the Southern Tier Blackwater series). Chocolate and vanilla up front, with the vanilla morphing from a mere accent to a full, throaty, rich vanilla cream in the middle. Toast, nuts, milk chocolate, and molasses on the back third, with an aftertaste hinting of caramel, brown sugar, red grapes, and very light char. It's remarkable that there is no added chocolate here.
Fairly low bitterness. Very, very smooth and creamy, while being full bodied; this is legitimately an up-sized milk stout.

The first thing that jumps out about this beer - the color, which is absolute pitch black. The sun couldn’t shine through this beer at 30 paces.
The head is also remarkable - I’ve not seen a head this dark in any of the Imperial stouts I’ve tried (which is a LOT).
The nose and taste are of course loaded with rich chocolate and vanilla notes, but the star for me is the stone fruit aromas and especially flavors. They really elevate this excellent imperial milk stout, IMHO.
This is my first beer from Reve, I'll be back for more if at all possible.
