If you go chasing rabbits, and you know you’re going to fall..
2021 Down the Rabbit Hole Vol. 67 from @reve. Imperial Stout aged 7 months in @blantons bourbon barrels, and conditioned on cacao nibs and raspberries.

Artwork: I LOVE everything about this bottle. I love the trippy spiral, I love how the beer details look like an old-time medicine label, and the bottle shape is so original and awesome.

Drinking: Poured surprisingly jet black with a dark brown head. We’re off to a splendid start. Head stuck around for a bit, despite the barrel-aging and fruit addition. When you tip the glass, there is a dark red ring around the edges, but it is thick and inky black in the glass.

Aromas of chocolate covered raspberry truffles. They nailed it if that’s what they were going for. Slight heat from the barrel, but no real sign of the spirit that previously inhabited it. Fruit gets more prevalent as it warms up.

The flavors are a bit unbalanced, with a huge amount of dry bitterness from the cacao nibs. Raspberries provides some sweet tartness that I don’t necessarily thinks complements the bitterness. Barrel starts to show up the temperature rises to about 60°, with some warming boozy notes and oaky tannins. Dry as a bone on the finish, and I think that makes it feel a bit thin.

Pleasantly surprised by this. I think the drinking experienced match my nerdy excitement about the packaging. Have a Vol. 71 as well, so I am looking forward to that.

Feed your head..
