Had on tap at the brewery.
On arrival a 1 finger dark tan head was present that slowly fades to a ring and thin covering that leaves nice lacing. The body is nearly black, but at thinner parts of the glass it's a clear dark brown letting just a little light thru.
Aroma is super smooth with a hint of coffee and dark chocolate as well as a touch of expressive English ale yeast.
Taste comes off as quite dry woth a building but not immense bitterness from dark malt and American hops. Very light flavor overall as the menu promised, making this a sort of americanized guinness competitor?
The feel is insanely crushable. If this was in a can it would be the black velvet of shotgun beers and I'm not even kidding. Despite the high abv the mouthfeel is super smooth with a crisp dry finish. Not nitro but the carbonation is medium and it fits the loose style that this beer sits somewhere in. It's not a Dunkel lager but it feels like one with a bit of roasty attenuation going on.
Overall this is a super drinkable beer that I want in pint and 24oz cans right now. Honestly very delicious and at 6.2 and this flavor it really is sneaky and would probably kill every malt liquor on the market if it was priced right.
