Appearance: Served from a crowler into a tulip glass. A golden copper color, with a small off-white, foam head. Lacking in retention.
Aroma: A malty, earthy aroma. Dark fruit, and some fruity hoppiness in the background.
Taste: Very malt forward, dark fruit and a little bit of citrus peel in the mid. Bitterness starts in the mid, and increases as it lingers around in the finish.
Overall: This is quite different than I was expecting. This DIPA has an old school vibe to it, keeping the old West Coast style alive and kickin'. Really brings up a sense of nostalgia for a time when beer had to rely on the craftsmanship and quality ingredients without all the excessively hoppy bells and whistles. This is very good. I give it 4 out of 5.
