Poured from a pint can, the body is a mahogany black with mocha colored head. Fluffy white head. Light lacing.

Aroma is an enjoyable nutty, malty nose. Taste follows nose and features a sturdy malty char. Upon finish, a lingering bitterness arises. No sign of the high ABV.

Mouthfeel is medium. Carbonation good.

Solid black appearance with a thin tan head.
Carbonation was medium light with the body having an oily, thick heavy body which all added up to a great feel.
Aroma is roasted malt, roasted coffee beans, mocha, char and some slightly sweet dark fruit.
Taste has a very mild sweetness but the dry roasted coffee element takes over quickly.
Cocoa, black coffee, toasted grain added to the flavor nicely.
Overall its not polished but that makes it come off like an old school version but its totally worth a try.

Received from @macmalt in a NBW BIF.
Poured classic black with a light brown head that took its sweet time dissipating.
The aroma, even for my nose, was a malty goodness with dark fruit and cocoa and coffee and a bit of char.
The taste followed, the flavors are so well balanced that I think it’s one of the best RIS, BA or not, that I’ve ever had the pleasure to drink.
The feel was smooth and viscous, not chewy but with enough body to encourage sipping.
Dang good beer.

Thanks to MacMalt for this NJ gem.
So beautiful. A deep, dark, nearly black, yet still profoundly brown liquid. And the most glorious mocha colored head. And what a head. Firm, proud, and thick.
The nose is straight up RIS, before all of the barrel aging fads. Don't get me wrong I love me some BBA Imperial Stouts. But this is old school. The malt is roasted well. Notes of char, leather, tobacco, and plum before you get to the sweet notes. A hint of bakers chocolate peeks in.
Flavor is ALL of the above yet it does make a little room for some charred caramel notes. So good, so classic. Some mild yet heavy, deep fruit notes make a move in the rear. A stewed apple to stewed prunes note comes through. All good.
Mouthfeel is full but not too chewy. Really spot on.
Overall, I feel lucky to have the chance at this.

On draught outdoors at the brewery. Served in a teku glass. I ordered it along with an IPA and allowed it to sit and warm on a hot summer day. It pours virtually black (no sunlight appeared when held to the sun) with a small but attractive mocha-colored head and lacing. It has a fragrant nose with roasted malt, char, tobacco smoke, bakers chocolate, burnt coffee, anise, and just a whiff of caramel/vanilla. Wow, the taste is fantastic! It opens dry, smoky, and bitter with burnt coffee, burnt nuts, and bakers chocolate. As it continues to warm, the flavors really emerge with notes of black cherry, molasses, and caramel. It has all the flavors I would want in a RIS. This Stout is thick and creamy with lite carbonation, and you can feel the 10.2% ABV. Overall, Left in the Dark is a fabulous rendition of my favorite beer style. It has everything I look for and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I don't think I've had a better Russian Imperial Stout brewed in New Jersey. Untied has really come of age!
