This year's annual winter ale is a Wassail (Hot mulled Cider) inspired Graff (Cider/Ale Blend) brewed with Apple Juice, Nelson Sauvin hops, Chardonnay grape must, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla bean, orange peel, molasses, and brown sugar. It is an apple and cider forward Ale with notes of winter spices.

Reviewed one week after can release. Poured into a tulip glass. It pours a murky, dark cola color with a creamy, medium-khaki head and thin sheen of lacing. Its aromatic nose features tangy apple, clove, nutmeg, a whiff of caramel malt, and a hint of floral hops. The taste is truly intriguing - and very good! It opens with tart apple, brown sugar and spice that reminds me of a holiday pie. There is also clove and nutmeg that gives it a vaguely Belgian Quad taste. But as it warms a bit the taste really develops. What makes it special to me is the molasses which adds depth. Moreover, the cinnamon really emerges as it warms and settles. In the background, the Nelson hops contribute a dry white wine grape that balances the sweetness of the cider. The mouth feel is surprisingly thick and creamy with mild carbonation and the 7.3% ABV gives it a nice pop. Overall, there is nothing gimmicky about this Graff. It is an inspired recipe and well-brewed. A real holiday treat!
