On-tap at Alematic Artisan Ales, Huber Heights, OH
A: The beer is black when viewed from afar with some brownish hues near the edges; it is clear brownish red when held up to the light. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that has good retention properties and hardly died down.
S: Light aromas of oak and vanilla are present in the nose along with hints of roasted malts.
T: The taste has flavors of burnt and roasted malts with strong accompanying flavors of oak and vanilla.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really liked the oak and vanilla in this Black IPA as these helped with its drinkability and added complexity to the smell and taste.
