Moonblind consists of various base stouts aged in Heaven Hill barrels that have slumbered for 14-22 months. Over the last three years we have given ourselves a lot of threads in which to work with. We started working on this blend last Fall, but as we encountered equipment delays, we had to push the release. All that to say, it has been a silver lining as we had a couple barrels come into their own and beautifully fill in layers that we were looking for. There really are no frills behind this beer. We chose complimentary barrels when we set the blend and made sure it hit all the right notes perfectly.
Tasting notes: baker's chocolate, marzipan, roast, caramello

Pours a lithe, motor-oil hue capped with just over a finger of fluffy, dark khaki foam; modest head retention leaves a paper-thin layer of fuzzy cap, an expansive, rich collar, and minimal-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aroma wafts chocolate cake batter over a level oak dispersion upfront, with sinewy barrel tannins interplaying alongside a dark cherry fade as bourbon-soaked fig bursts through an evocative rickhouse air laden with malted cocoa.
Taste finds notes of toasted walnuts and dark fruit esters wispy throughout, while subtle char reaches over the profile into a chocolate ganache back end and burnt chocolate chip lingering; a kiss of bourbon, malted toffee, and milk chocolate tres leches residuals all mark the closing impressions.
Mouthfeel brings a body on the lighter end of medium alongside an airy fluff of attenuated, moderate carbonation; a soft roast expresses minimal char over the mid-palate as a light creaminess cuts through and warmth meets a drying synchronicity into the finish.
Restrained decadence in supreme blending; barrel tannins awash in evocative roast reveal a fusion of malt and bourbon at a peak of expression; a world-class display.

Pours black with only a foamy ring forming on top. Oily legs stick to the glass after a swirl of the viscous liquid.
Aroma is dark fruit heavy. Dense and hearty dark fruits stick to blackberry, thick chocolate, and brownie batter. Barrel adds depth, but doesn't make it too heavy. Alcohol is not apparent within the dense aroma.
Flavor profile continues the dark fruit theme, pairing dark fruits with blackberry cobbler, and brownies. Roasty and toasty malts work alongside barrel to add some firm balance to the initial semi-sweet notes. Barrel is firm, but not hot. No discernable alcohol in the mix.
Mouth feel is thick, with a mild, soft effervescence. A light silt adds texture.
Overall, a big time stout with a lot going for it. It has a simplistic focus on stout notes with no extra flavor additions, and since it performs well, it makes for a wonderful and sip and savor experience.
Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 500mL bottle. Reviewed from notes.
