my favorite of the three beers i had in here i reckon, one they might keep around all or most of the time, and decidedly different from the hoppy black ales i have come to expect from the style, this one is almost more of a stout or even a deep brown ale, not so black in color as it is brown, and definitely malt driven all the way, very little hops to speak of at all in here actually, but that doesnt mean the beer lacks complexity, far from it, it really has a lot going on, notes of dry cocoa and raisin in here get it started, with a cola and a roasted thing in the middle, and some sweet and bitter elements both to finish, light coffee, a rum note, and even a trace of licorice, they did a great job pulling flavor out of the different grains in here. its not as heavy in body as it looks, and drinks medium bodied and smooth, unfortunately a bit under carbonated like the others here were, but with quite a unique flavor that doesnt neatly fit into any one style for me. well made, interesting, drinkable, and good in all seasons. i was pretty impressed with this one!
