32oz grunt filled at the Growler Guys in Richland, Washington, for around $10. Hadn't had anything from Single Hill before, as they're not distributed to Spokane.
For a "Cascadian Dark Ale/Black IPA," this is relatively light in color, resembling a dark mahogany that gets progressively lighter closer to the edges. Big, pillowy beige head. Lots of lace.
Aroma is of C hops (namely Chinook, Cascade and Comet, in this case). First new IPA that doesn't resemble a fruit besides grapefruit in a while.
Mild blast of those C hops up front, but paired with some caramelly malt flavor and - about midway through - there's an inexplicable blast of bubble gum flavor. Weird.
Sharp, tingly mouthfeel to this.
An odd beer. Certainly the oddest of the style that I've had for some time. Not bad, just... perplexing.
