Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger khaki head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, cocoa and dark stone fruit. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate charr, whiskey, oak, baker's chocolate, coffee and a hint of walnuts in the finish, which is mostly charry malt and whiskey. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A fine barrel aged stout on the charry, oaky end of the spectrum. Still quite whiskey forward, this might need a year to mellow out a bit, although even a bit hot, it's enjoyable. Some woody oak without much oak vanilla. The malt is somewhat on the thin side for a barrel aged stout, but as with the base stout I tried a few days ago, substantial enough to handle the aging. My first stouts from Single Hill and likely not my last.
