Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark reddish orange with a one finger khaki head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, caramels, mild dark dried fruit and light generic spicing. Flavor is dry caramel malt, toffee, dates, light raisins and hints of cinnamon and mixed dried fruit. A touch of smoke and holiday spice bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid, festive winter warmer with a profile reminiscent of an amped up Scottish ale, but with only a touch of smoke. Lots of dark dried fruit and caramel/toffee. Flavorful from start to finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy caramel aftertaste. The aroma was closer to an actual candy caramel than anything I can remember in recent memory. A great holiday ale I'll look for again next year.
