Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a quarter finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick, persistent cap with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, hot pepper and cinnamon. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and light whiskey; a mild ancho pepper burn in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Delivers on its promise of a whiskey barreled stout with Mayan chocolate influence. The flavor is similar to contemporary Mexican chocolate, but with some hot pepper to liven things up. Rich and well balanced with the hot pepper noticeable, but not dominating. Nice vanilla notes. Leans to decadent dessert taste, but only modestly sweet. A fine barreled stout.
