Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Two year old cellared can. Pours a dark reddish orange with a thin, off-white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, orange zest and whiskey. Flavor is dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, figs, orange zest, mild cherry and whiskey. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Like the last Parallax I tried, this one has a solid English style malt base with deep dark fruit flavors. This one however also has lighter orange and cherry notes, which bring in some American barleywine character although the hopping in low. Kind of a hybrid between the styles, and a pleasant one. The early taste is mostly dark fruit and the lighter fruit notes develop through the taste. Flavors are harmonious. I liked this quite a bit. Single Hill is doing a good job with their barreled beer. I like their can illustrations too.
