Rauchbier gets its distinct flavor from smoked malt. The smoky character comes from drying the malted barley over an open fire. Traditionally, beechwood is the smoke of choice. Smoke Break is described as a mid-strength Rauch Märzen, brewed with beechwood-smoked barley and a touch of oak-smoked wheat. The result is a malt-forward lager with notes of caramel and cocoa, backed by a firm but clean smoky finish that lingers without overwhelming.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 3/26/26.
Appearance: rich ruby-amber hue with just a dash of haze and a head of forhty ivory foam. I really, really like the color on this one.
Smell: moderate level of smoke on this one, with a nice caramelly malt undertone demonstrating a good level of sweetness. I’m intrigued!
Taste: smoke level is maybe a bit higher than hinted at by the aroma, but not acrid or over-the-top: in fact, it’s quite well-balanced with the nutty, caramelly malt base. Perhaps a little on the sweet side, but still a very good beer.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminss.
Overall: I just happen to find this one really refreshing, balanced, and quite drinkable indeed.
