Chocolate Cherry Stout from Horny Toad Brewing. Purchased on 22/5/21 from reefer at the brewery, $ 4.33 (including tax)/16 oz can ($0.271/oz). Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 25/5/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 47.8 degrees in a hand washed and dried glass coffee cup. Final temperature 53.2 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), hazy.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Tiny (Maximum one cm, aggressive center pour), bronze, high density, leaving a one to three mm crown and a thin partial cap. Second pour produces a tight 0.2 cm head.
Lacing – Good. Torn curtain lacing expanding from a reticulum – all bubbles are near-microscopic.
Aroma – 3 – Weak cocoa, no hops, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Weak cocoa followed by weaker cherry with no malt, no hops, no yeast. No ethanol (unknown ABV, not marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery more than creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Weak cocoa, weaker cherry. Definitely at the porter end of the porter-stout spectrum.
