Pours black with a finger of tan foam. Aroma is toasty and roasty malts with a bold emphasis. Vanilla bean wakes up the front of the palate, while chocolate sweeps in at the close. Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts with chocolate and vanilla bean adding sweetness to the first two-thirds. Fudge gets built up for the finish, adding a decadent closing note. Cocoa nibs, semi-dry and powdery, are found throughout the flavor profile. Some heat sneaks into the close, especially as the beer warms up. Heat is never enough to unbalance the flavor profile, amounting to just enough to counter the initial sweet notes. Mouth feel is thick with a near still effervescence. It has a velvety texture. Overall, heavy, with vanilla and cocoa barely discernible in these dense storm cloud of a beer.
