A: Pours a slightly hazy orange color. A dense white head forms with excellent retention and rings of lace left behind.
S: Very aromatic. With toasted malts, that become more like baked bread as this warms. That herbal, floral tea is a big component. Always in balance with the malt and orange rind, fruity, ester, musty yeast character. Lots going on here, and really nice.
T: Follows the nose. With toasted malts. baked bread, tea and fruity flavors. Orange, citrus, herbal, floral, spicy, hibiscus flavors as well. There is a musty yeast character and a tartness that slowly builds and lingers on. The tartness becomes full on sourness.
M/O: A medium body with effervescent carbonation. There is a puckering astringency from the tartness/sourness. Which all leads to a very well done example of a sour Saison that I can come back to.
At first, I was praising the balance here, as there is tons going on. Though the sourness builds and lingers a little to much for me in that department. It is still a well done example of a "Wild Saison" but just a light detraction keeps this from exceptional. As is, just very good anyway.
