a curious and delicious mexican coconut caramel brown ale, another crazy interesting mexican inspired beer in here thats anything but another boring lager! this is done with coriander, toasted coconut, and palm sugar, and is definitely sweet, but not overly desserty to me, in the sense i could drink a whole one pretty easy, and might even go back for another. pours a color on the deeper side of brown ale, almost porter looking, with a higher head than most of the others had in here. coconut dominates in the nose, with some rich cocoa malt and a sort of vanilla sugar element underneath, a big bready malt base occupies the center of this, and the coriander is so faint. the flavor is crazy, the coconut is all the way through it, toasted for sure, real natural, and not seeming to contribute much to the sweetness, at least to me. the coriander has a peppery and botanical element to it that pops in for just a second, but this rich caramel layer is what starts and ends this one for me, not sure i know its palm sugar, but with the grain it really does taste like gooey caramel. i like the light spice, the deeper roast, and the fuller body this has, its a smart recipe and its really well executed, tastes like some sort of confection, but i can drink it too. really tasty and innovative stuff here!
