Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, figs, raisins, cocoa and a little mineral. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, dried plums, raisins, cocoa and mild grassy hops. Moderately bitter, woody finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The base porter has quite nice and classic Baltic porter fruit, malt and cocoa character, but the finish has a somewhat astringent interaction between the hops and woodiness that distracted. Has good fundamentals, but needs a tweak in the finish.
