22oz bottle poured into tulip glass. As the pressure cap is pried off a short hiss was present.
Appearance: black bodied stout. Thick cap of medium brown head that fizzes away to a thick ring around the glass.
Smell: deep chocolate. Musty / lightly funky wet oak aroma.
Taste: Very chocolaty; starts out with big milk chocolate sweetness. Lots of old / mature / funky oak flavors here with a slightly spicy bourbon. Big raisins and tobacco. Finish has a moderately bitter bakers cocoa, dark chocolate, hint of bourbon and big raisins linger in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied stout; low and adequate carbonation levels. Little bit of spice and warming booze quality.
Overall: Per usual, Riverlands bottles tasting way better than draft pours. No complaints here as I do enjoy my barrel aged stouts from Riverlands. Really enjoying the oak in this stout it is interesting and complex oak barrel found in this beer.
I have especially enjoyed Riverlands 1 & II because those Weller barrels are straight $$$. Of the 3 Anniversary stout here is the hierarchy for my personal tastes: Riverlands II> Riverlands I> Riverlands III.
