Bright clear gold under a short head. Lots of fine lace on the way down. Nose is just slightly hoppy with some alcohol. Malty sweet up front, gentle hops, soft bitter finish. Ordinary to drink, but also easy enough to drink.

can - Pours a lightly hazed pale gold with a 2 finger white cap...aromas of boiled malts, wet hay and some lager yeast sulfides...malty-hoppy balanced character, peppery mouth feel....flavor has malts and hops in decent balance in front, goes dry and lightly bitter in a clean crisp finish....a hoppy Pilsner, not as hop forward as Javer but still pretty good...great summer sipper

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Thanks to Kif and Alex for this gift.

Appearance - Crystal clear, a finger plus white head. Lots of bubbles. Dark golden brew.

Smell - Fairly grainy with a nutty caramel note that is more malty than most in the style. Some light grassy affects as well, but that singular caramel note is the unique point.

Taste - Some malty notes up front, lots of caramel, followed by grassy flavors and hints of grain.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, good expressive carbonation.

Overall - More malty than most, so it's a little different, it is still nonetheless tasty (even if its not the most representative of the style.

Pours your typical lager gold colour with not much of a head. The smell is grainy and corny. The taste is a bit bitter, biscuity and a touch of metallic. Mouthfeel is somewhat flat, but smooth. I’ve had better bohemian pilsners

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 1 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours crystal clear, with a bright golden yelllow-hued body that is crowned with one finger of frothy white head that crumbles within two minutes or so. A narrow band of smooth, even lacing adheres to the glass, with a thin collar being the only other remnant of note - looks fine to me. Doughy, bready malts on the nose, with hints of honeyed sweetness, mild diacetyl and a faint suggestion of floral hops.

It's a serviceable take on a Czech pils. The flavour profile is quite bready, with notes of gritty, grainy malts and very subtle butterscotch also coming through. Towards the finish, the Saaz hops impart a rather spicy, herbal, earthy bitterness to the profile, with a hint of citrus oil preceding a grassy, spicy, slightly bready aftertaste that lingers on the taste buds for a moment or two. Light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that loses its 'zip' pretty quickly - the first several sips had a good bite, but it got a bit flabbier and slicker over the course of the glass... and I didn't really nurse this one like I usually do during reviews, either. Good drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.58, a B grade. Joe Blo' is not necessarily one of the best Czech-style pilseners I've ever imbibed, but it's still a pretty decent one that I mostly enjoyed. That being said, the price point doesn't really do this beers any favours, as both Czechvar and PU cost less than this, and are better pilseners IMO. Recommended, but only if you have a genuine affinity for pale lagers, particularly European ones. I'll get it again at some point, but I'm not in a rush.
