Pours a crystal clear copper color with a sudsy white head that provides significant lacing, the rye is present as soon as you pop the top on the can, and there’s also some pine notes and floral hops, with those notes replicated on the taste and accompanied by a medium, crisp mouthfeel. Good stuff.

16 oz can from Toby. Medium amber pour, thin skin of head. Aroma is rye bread, grainy, musty. Taste is also focused on the grain. Medium weight, smooth.

Look: Hazy yellow-orange with a thick white head. Solid retention and lacing.

Smell: This is bursting with fruits and hops, I was picking it up before I was finished pouring. I’m getting pineapple, banana, orange, mango, and citra hops.

Taste: Bitter hops, definitely getting the rye and spices. The fruits from the nose are more subtle here because of the hops and rye.

Feel: Light to medium body, pretty slick finish.

Overall: Pretty promising beer from these guys. I do wish the fruits came through a bit more on the taste, but this was still solid nonetheless.

LOOK * * * slightly hazy light orange - low head but very active - decent retention and a lot of soapy/lacing to keep you entertained
SMELL * * * pine, mango, and some cattiness - some caramel - a bit woodsy/earthy - herbal
TASTE * * * decent bitterness - some rye spiciness rushes in along with a lot of mango and tropical fruit - goes straight to pine and cattiness - sweetens a bit to help balance this beer out - left with some herbal notes
FEEL * * * medium + mouthfeel - nearly a full body (fuller than some stouts that I have had) - a nice creamy and slick feeling
OVERALL * * * this is a very impressive RIPA - very flavorful and packed with hop flavor - this is at the top of Utah IPAs for me - will not be afraid of picking this up in the future

16 oz can from the brewery store. Pours clear copper with a small white head, bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is rye, citrus, straw, metal. Taste is rye, citrus, with a little black pepper in the finish. Nice balance. The carbonation makes for a nice mouth feel. My first Level Crossing beer, I like it.

my first beer from these guys is a real sturdy rye based ipa, gorgeous packaging on the cans, and a pretty intensely flavored beer, nothing subtle about this one! its a medium amber color with a little haze to it, looks a bit unrefined, but i like the obviously hearty malt depth and the body here, this kind of ipa still has a special place in my heart. the rye in here is bold, peppery, earthy and marries well with the sweeter toasted grain thats here too, must be quite a high rye percentage, more prominent than in a lot of these in both aroma and flavor. the hop profile surprises me, i thought we were all set for the predictable piney northwestern vibe that rye always seems to be treated with, but its way more unique than that, tropical and herbal and super fresh to me, a neat curve ball for sure. i get subtle tea and verbena, lemongrass and orange, cut flowers and even berry in here, hardly any of the expected pine character at all, i love the hop combination on this malt bill too, super unique and unexpected, yet also still quite bitter, more than enough to balance the grain, and it sure drinks like an ipa, interesting as it is. as much as i love the recipe and combination of ingredients here, i think the beer could use a little cleaning up, its a bit heavy to drink, and the carbonation isnt quite where it should be to uplift this. still, a really fun and different beer, im excited to try more from these guys!
