Amber Bastard

I had this beer on-tap in a stemmed white wine glass at Bastard Brew in Reykjavík.

Appearance: pale amber-orange hue with a light haze and a thin layer of ivory foam atop.

Smell: toasty malt with a rather citrus peel-ey aroma. Not bad but it doesn’t entirely work.

Taste: that sort of lemony, almost grapefruit peel character is big in the flavor, with a sweetish, toasty malt beneath. I really want to like this more, because it is interesting, but like the aroma it doesn’t entirely work for me.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: decent but kind of an odd beer; I could see it finding an audience but I’m not in that audience.
