neat to see such a wide range of styles and regional inspiration on the beer menu here, this is a cool example of the style, a little darker in color than a lot of them, and not perfect, but solid, autumnal, and satisfying after a long work day. this is a little cloudy in the glass but not yucky or murky, unfiltered for sure, a brown tinted amber tone to it, and a nice high just off white head from the tap. it smells quite good, yeast forward, bready and with a clove spice to it, some high tone esters more common in german ales than lagers, almost hefe-esque here, some peppery character, deeply earthy with this darker wheat, good complexity, lots going on, my senses are heightened and engaged. the flavor has just a bit of generic malt sweetness running through it, but a lot of wheat flavor, partially toasted and a little bready, but not heavy or rich, and the yeast is there the whole way, plantain, faint coconut flesh, white pepper, anise, and black tea, really layered. its not quite as clean and well refined as i want it to be, but no denying its flavorful and interesting and quite sturdy as well, good carbonation, palate coating, ever so slightly astringent late and as it warms, but on the whole i thought this was pleasant and distinct. not enough brewers doing these...
