I picked up a crowler of this brew at the end of a visit to the brewery to meet a friend. Nice spot outside seating and good variety of beers.
But focus on this beer. Its been in my fridge since purchase and brought in a cooler to New Hampshire to share with family here. Im pouring the beer at fridge temp into my dimple mug, because its what I have.
The beer pours a black coffee color with no light passing through the glass and a fluffy tan head of 2 cm foams up even after my gentle pour. The aroma is malty and sweet. I get good roasted notes, some dark chocolate, faint wisps of vanilla and a good dose of the hazelnut mixed in. No hops, no real hint of the 11% booze either. Very nice aroma and a good mix of scents.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with soft gentle rolling carbonation and a smooth creamy texture. This beer drinks too easy for 11%!
Flavor is starting with roast notes but moves to dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and hazelnut. The hazelnut lingers after each swallow. Again no hops, and ABV is completely hidden, no heat even on burps. I get through the crowler quickly with only a little (~4oz) help from my uncle. Quite a nice beer and one that puts the brewery on my radar in CT now.
