We love our buddies down in Tampa Bay at a little brewery called Angry Chair. You may have heard of them. We’re huge fans of one of their most sought after barrel-aged beers, Barrel-Aged Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout. So much so that nearly two years ago we brewed up a huge imperial stout that shared threads from both of our base imperial stout recipes, let it sit in a blend of bourbon barrels for 22 months and then decided to give it the BAIGCCS treatment, but with a little spice. Literally, as we added some cinnamon to the mix because coconut plus cinnamon is just an unbeatable combination. Add in marshmallow-forward vanilla and decadent chocolate notes and we have ourselves a winner!

500 ml bottle into a snifter. A 2024 release, had 5/24/25.
Pours near black and opaque, thick looking, with a brief head and some oily smear on the glass. Coconut floaters. Aromas of coconut, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, some cinnamon, light bourbon and oak. Has a little bit of a spicy aroma. Flavors of coconut, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt, some cinnamon, some bourbon- more as it warms. Smooth, thick, a little creamy, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.
Thick, rich and pretty delicious. Big coconut presence, lots of vanilla and the cinnamon is just enough. The barrels show best fully warmed, but fairly light overall.

Excellent, excellent beer. Sweet and thick, big flavors of chocolate, coconut, vanilla, cinnamon, and bourbon. Big bodied, slightly thick, and boozy. I’ve always wanted to try Chair’s Barrel German Chocolate Cake, and if it’s anywhere as good as this one, I bet it’s out of this world.

Poured from a 500mL black-waxed bottle into a Mikerphone tumbler. Pours a thick black with almost no foam but plenty of coconut floaties. Aromas of rich chocolate, cinnamon and coconut. Not a ton of barrel but as it warms in the glass it’s there. Tastes follows with more pronounced cinnamon and coconut but still get a lot of chocolate in the finish. More barrel on the taste than the nose but it’s still not a strong presence but this rocks. Full mouthfeel. Slick and semi-sludgy. This is really good. All the additives are balanced. Only knock would be lack of barrel presence but it’s still very good.

Caked up? More like hyped up! Look is smells especially tastes as advertised. Smell is more coconut, vanilla and chocolate forward, taste the malt, pecan, cinnamon. But the barrel is pretty weak, and the sugar really accumulate quickly on the palate as a result. Feel is thick as can be, sludgy and heavy, barrel character is weak, but not particularly smooth given.... What is floating around the glass! The appearance is unappetizing with coconut and pecans in it, like not a flake here or there, but significant amount of the pour. Shouldn't need a strainer when I pour the beer

Draft pour @ Elmhurst; not much head to speak of, no matter. The usual thicc, glass coating stout you'd expect here. Nose was GCC batter with a light note of cinnamon. Flavor was just cake batter with that same delicate cinnamon note that never pushed the flavors towards a cinnamon roll. Barrel presence was minimal at best.
