A barrel aged sour red clocking in at 7% ABV, it pours opaque rust color with a 3 finger thick head that was sand colored with tons of bubbles of all sizes, fading very, very slowly and leaving nice spotty lacing.
Smells of red wine, oaky notes, sulfur like the initial aroma out of a Merlot bottle, caramel, souring grapes, wet cardboard, barnyard funk, light peppery spices and dark fruit. The malt and barrel notes mix together and bring out a lot of complexities that are hard to describe. A very nice unique nose.
The taste had more wood accents, some mild booze, fresh cut flowers, spices like cumin or spruce tips, orange juice and then the same mix as the aroma (red wine, oaky notes, light peppery spices, caramel, sour grapes, wet cardboard, barnyard funk....). A lot more earthy and very reminiscent of a Belgian Flanders red. It’s tart, sour, slightly bitter and at the same time fruity, woody and quite interesting with each sip. I like this brew, it’s different in a very good way.
