Picked up one can at LCBO. I should of checked the date before buying as its almost 11 months old now. Might explain the stale taste. Not much taste to this besides a stale bread/metallic on the finish. I will try it again if I can find a fresh can.

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded J2618 (Sept 26 2018) and served slightly chilled. Most light lagers are a guaranteed one and done for me, but I actually had a few cans of this in late spring and didn't mind them.
Pours bright, clear and effervescent, with a golden yellow-tinted body that is topped off with nearly a finger of foamy, soapy white head. It dissipates slowly over the next five minutes, give or take, eventually being reduced to a creamy cap and collar. Nice coat of lace, too: looks great for a light lager. The aroma is muted but appropriate for the style; some doughy malts, cereal grain sweetness and maybe a hint of apples. Nothing to complain about yet.
Basic stuff; the main body of the flavour profile is fine, but the aftertaste bugs me - it tastes mostly of grain husk, underlain by a subtly doughy, cereal sweetness. Grassiness and weak citrus pithiness join in towards the back end, with some unappealing metallicity persisting into the aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately assertive carbonation levels that froth up in the mouth, resulting in a smooth, slightly crisp texture. Easy to drink, but that comes with the style. I'll see if I can find a fresher can at the store tomorrow, and update the review as necessary, as I suspect the aftertaste is related to its age.

Found another can dated May 10 2019. I was ready to scrap yesterday's review and give this one a do-over, but I'm not really noticing enough of a difference to go that far - though I will say that the metallic aftertaste is simply not even there this time around (thus confirming that it was staleness issue, and not a flaw inherent to the beer), so I do need to bump its grade slightly. No, New Standard's Original Lager is nothing special, and I doubt I'll be buying it on a regular basis, but at the very least it's a few strides ahead of the macro light beers.
Final Grade: 3.31, a B-

Pours an odd yellow colour, but it leaves a nice fluffy head and sticky lacing. Corn on the nose. Not much of a taste, but that’s typical of a light lager. This tastes like 0.0% beer to me but the label says 3.2%
