i believe this is just the original guns and oil lager rebranded to better fit in idaho than texas, but the original was a little stronger, at least according to the listing here in BA. this is on tap around town just as western lager, which makes sense i guess, these guys seem to be contantly in shuffle. this, generally speaking, is not one of their better beers. its clean enough, but its real basic, to the extent that it almost tastes cheap and corny to me, but the lager yeast does have some flavor, so its not entirely sterile. the color is pale yellow, clear enough, with a tall white head on it settling quickly from the tap. it smells and tastes like light cereal, relatively fresh, with the bready yeast, simple, and without hardly any hops, but fermented to dry so crisp enough. i just want a little more character on it, like being just light isnt quite enough here, at least for my palate. not sure i remember the original guns and oil lager well enough to compare the two, this seems maybe more professionally executed, like they have become more competent brewers, but as far as the recipe goes its tough to say. as a quick crusher of a lager, this works well enough, but beyond that its hard to get excited about...
