Dually, Palisade's ubiquitous red truck, also gives the brewery the moniker for its double IPA--presumably the doubled up version of their high quality Red Truck IPA. Available at the brewery, it comes a light amber with orange tints, little carbonation and only the slightest hint of a head. A bouquet of citrus and cinnamon.
The hop presence is strong from the start and doesn't let up as it rolls across the palate. In fact, I could even feel the hops burning down through my throat and weakening somewhere barely north of my pyloric sphincter. If nothing else, this brew is a true hop lovers' dream.
Unfortunately, Dually doesn't taste or feel that different from its litte brother. It works well as a traditional IPA--and a strong one at that, yet if fidelity to style counts for anything (in my book, it does), Dually lacks the malt presence to balance out the hops and create a true double IPA. This is most evident in the mouthfeel that I
expect from a DIPA (smooth, strong, balanced between sweet and bitter), whereas this is just high on the hops.
Overall, Dually is a solid IPA, and a subpar DIPA. I recognize that that's a conclusion that will drive some folks (including myself occasionally) mad, so take it with a grain of salt. Or perhaps with a swig of Dually to decide for yourself.
