Variation of the classic Munich Helles, with an increased malt profile for Oktoberfest. This beer is crisp with a pleasant malty sweetness. 22 IBU

473 mL can, Day 23 of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar; dated Oct 3 2024 and served barely chilled.
Pours a clear deep golden colour, stirring up half an inch of loose, soapy white head that sizzles away within ninety seconds. A sickly-thin collar is the only survivor, with no lace production whatsoever - ok, so the visuals are a bit lacking. The aroma is normal enough, comprised of doughy, biscuity malts and grains, with light notes of honeycomb and grassy hops.
It's not bad: this beer is billed as a maltier version of their helles lager, and that's basically how it drinks - like a marginally stronger, sweeter helles. Grainy-sweet flavour profile, with hints of biscuit dough and a light note of honey. Restrained bitterness, with just a hint of grassy, herbal, noble hops interrupting the malt continuity; concludes with a biscuity-sweet aftertaste that fades within a second or two. Light-medium in body, with moderately low carbonation that weakly prickles the tongue; the mouthfeel is smooth, but a little too slick for a lager. Great drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.53, a serviceable B grade. This is the last of three festbiers included in this calendar: and no, I'm not complaining, because this is one of my favourite types of German lager. Ridge Rock's stab at the style has some room for improvement, but I'm still mostly happy with it - this is the sort of beer I could drink in multiples without complaint, though for geographic/distribution reasons, that seems unlikely to happen. Worth a shot if you enjoy festbiers & reside in the Ottawa area; I'm grateful to have had the chance to try it. Cheers!
