Servaes classifies this as a Stout - Imperial/Double. It is a blend of barrel-ageds released during the year, leading up to the nanobrewery's second anniversary. It is composed of a barleywine aged in a Buffalo Trace barrel, an imperial stout aged in a port wine barrel and an imperial sweet stout aged in a Buffalo Trace barrel.
Poured from a pint can into a Rastal Teku glass, there was no head. A beige film with swirl, but no head or lacing. The ring persists.
What hits the nose first is a wave of booze. That crest brings in scents of sweet stout cherry and high bourbon notes.
Taste. Let it warm. The port wine flavor hits first, followed by cherry booze.
Mouthfeel. It's medium-light and tended toward creamy, a slight surprise, considering its origins.
Finish. Smooth with some throat heat.
Overall. A good smoky, roasty, boozy contrast to the dessert beer sours and cream ales Servaes has used to carve its niche.
