my first from this little small town operation, a very solid red ipa, done with montana grown malt and hops, and there is definitely some terroir in this beyond just the water profile, this malt is fresh and delicious, somewhat light in body here, but big in flavor, concentrated and even rich tasting, but without a ton of residual sugar to it, and without the cooked caramelized thing, more dry, almost irish red-esque on the grain side in that its earthy and drier. the hops are piney and familiar, even if they are from here, northwestern to me, more than bitter enough to balance the malt, this is nicely built. fuller mouthfeel, soft textures though, and a hint of maybe almond to the grain. the hops hit with bitter orange and even a juniper note, not quite botanical, definitely not overdosed, and i like it having some closing bite. the ferment is clean and tidy and professional, and overall i was stoked both on this beer and on this place. i like the use of local ingredients and a brewery who does not default to the generic amber ale as their red selection. yum.
