473 mL can from Maud's Variety; packaged Jan 4 2022 and served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy, turbid pale straw yellow colour, crowned with nearly an inch of lumpy, soapy white foam that recedes at a casual pace. After five minutes or so, it has eroded down to a quarter-inch cap and collar, with a gorgeous curtain of lacing draped against the glass - looks great to me. Lots of grapefruit on the nose, with hints of spruce needles, stone fruit, minty herbs and lime zest.
I like this quite a bit - it's hop forward, but not bitter. Juicy at the forefront, with grapefruit as well as hints of melon, peach and papaya; not a lot of malt presence, perhaps a little wheatiness. Pithy on the back end, with lightly grassy, piney hop bitterness and lemon-lime zestiness that recedes into a (tropical & stone) fruity aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with moderately low carbonation that gently tickles the palate; very soft and smooth, almost a little fluffy on the tongue. Fantastic drinkability.
Final Grade: 4.05, an A-. I had never heard of this brewery beforehand, and thus had no real expectations for this beer, but I think Flow might be one of the best pale ales I've reviewed in months. A delightful, practically sessionable hazy pale ale that I'd happily purchase again: I really hope I see more Counterpart brews around here in the future.
