16oz can
A pretty substantial pour only yields half of a finger of white head into my willi becher glass. Retention is average, leaves a small film and good initial lacing. Body is a little darker than some of the hazies I’ve been having lately, more brown hues. Also not quite as hazy. Looks fine so far.
Nose is very fresh and clean, accompanied by dank hops. Light citrus, lemon, a touch of grapefruit. Not a huge juice bomb though, which is also a nice change, but literally any change would be nice from this monotonous style. Gets less enjoyable when the citrus starts coming through a little more, now it’s not meshing well with the other aromas. Overall not bad.
Flavor is quite interesting, definitely a little different from your run of the mill hazy. More noticeable residual sugars than I’m used to, which is saying a lot for the style. The sugars are making the beer borderline too sweet, airing on the side of sticking to my mouth and lingering. Some extremely faint citrus, very faith dank hops as well. Finishes with a small, but noticeable alcohol bite, at 8.5% sure it’s a little heavy, but this day and age I will certainly raise an unapproving eyebrow if a beer can’t hide the alcohol at 8.5. Overall this is still fine, but it’s got a fair share of problems.
Some of these problems cross paths between mouthfeel and flavor. Too much sugar and an alcohol bite are just as much flavor as they are feel. Body is pretty light, with a low carbonation. Very sub par mouthfeel.
The drinkability is ok. The sugars and alcohol aren’t through the roof, but they are arguably the two biggest killers of drinkability other than just straight up poor taste.
The appearance turned out pretty good. Lacing was thick from top to bottom.
Overall this is fine, but there are a lot of flaws. I recall liking this a little more, and I certainly liked my first sniff more than I liked my last sip.

Not a total opaque juice bomb, Nelson's Guide To The Galaxy pours a deep yellow bordering orange, with a wispy white foam above leaving a curb around the glass and sparse spots of lace.
Aromas of sugar and berries. Blueberry and strawberry to be exact. The Nelson signature white wine/ gooseberry is there, but very restrained.
Flavor follows with a little more Nelson oomph. Blueberry, sugar cookies, and a subtle earthy finish.
This feels fuzzy. Fun. Mid bodied, lower carbonation, balanced, only slightly bitter, and finishes dry with a touch of alcohol heat.
A solid DIPA. Love the hops used, but would love even more for the Nelson to really shine. Cheers.
