This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like heavily roasted malt, smoke, dark chocolate, and herbal hops.

I like the hit of smoke on this one - schwarzbiers can sometimes be smoky, but this seems to lean a little harder that way, which is just fine with me. There's lots of roast, a touch of herbal and spicy hop character, and a touch of velvety chocolate smoothness on the back end.

This is lighter bodied, very crisp, with a nice bite. It's quite drinkable.

I am always, always down for dark lager.

Can from Market of Choice.

A dark brown with a dense brown head with good retention and lacing. The nose is great, soft, roasty, grainy with cocoa, mildly dusty and earthy, a touch of coffee. Clean fermentation. The palate opens with a great grainy acidity, dry, roasty, cocoa like with a little bitter grain. The mid-palate is light and airy, with a little bit of a carbonic bite to complement the grain. Soft cocoa and carbonic acid linger on the finish. This is a pretty excellent schwarzbier.

Look: Jet black with a lofty light tan head that erupts and holds as a pillow, ever-so-slowly receding and leaving copious lacing clung to the glass
Aroma: Roast, earthiness, freshly baked brown bread, a little cocoa, and light notes of char
Taste: Starts out with a strong showing of both roast and charred notes that linger as earthy notes and cocoa weave their way in and join the fun. Bread and toast hold down the middle before earthy notes shake things up again and joins in to lead to the close
Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a crisp, clean, and lightly dry finish
Overall: I dig it. I love a good Schwarzbier and this is a tasty and well-made one that eluded me last time it was packaged. A lot more roast and char than many I have tried and I kind of dig it, plus it helps keep it unique, albeit amongst the very slim field of Stateside-brewed Schwarzbiers. If you dig the Schwarz, I’d definitely recommend this one

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown, clear, fluffy beige head. Roasty aroma, nutty. Taste is sweet, roasty bitterness, woody, nutty. Light bitter finish with a touch of dryness. Well rounded. Very nicely done.

This is the best lager to drink in the summer; malty light-bodied, and refreshing. I am happy to see brewers starting to brew more lagers. It has been an ale fest out there in the beer world, with all sorts of IPA being over-brewed. The beer was just pulled from the fridge and sitting around 39 degrees. Poured into a pint glass; moreover, a frothy and creamy two-fingered light tan head was created. The retention of the head is above average but left no lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 24, dark brown with ruby highlights. The appearance of the beer is above average.
Roasty malts, displaying chocolate and coffee on the nose. Other aromas in the beer are hints of tobacco, herbal, a touch of earthiness, and slight malty sweetness. Sipping the beer, deep-roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, leather, and floral is what I tasted first. Quaffing the beer again, I get a faint acrid campfire and a slight phenol note.
The mouthfeel is slightly dry and finishing a touch tannic. The lighter body makes this crisp with low carbonation.
I have been enjoying this beer. Helps soothes the soul on a dreary, raining, cold spring night.

On draft at the Beaverton location

Very very dark brown, almost black. Cream colored head, decent head retention. Mild roast in the aroma and taste. Flavorful enough but still easy drinking. Off dry finish. Thin to medium bodied.

Canned on 3/7, so just 2 weeks old. Pours a clear, very dark reddish-amber. Light head, virtually no nose. Taste is dry, hoppy on the start, followed up with a pleasant mix of roasted malt, toffee and caramel, maybe a bit of smoke. At a 4.9% ABV, it's very sessionable.

16 oz. single can from Lifesource Natural Grocer in Salem OR
$2.79
Pours a chestnut brown colour with dark amber highlights. Very impressive frothy/rocky tan head.
Aromas of light caramel/fudge and cream. Some nuttiness. Reminds me more of a brown ale than a Schwarz.
Taste same as aroma. Little bit of bitterness. Dark chocolate. Some coffee hints.
Mouth feel is thin. Carbonation low. Slight dry finish.
Overall not a great schwarzbier..but drinkable. Reminded me more of a brown ale.
