The brewery call this an English Bitter, but I felt the prominent addition of beetroot and it's resulting flavour made this a non-standard enough 'bitter' to add it as a Fruit&Field beer.
From my notes...
Red Beeter 5.0% ‘English Bitter. Malty real ale with beetroot juice’
L- Slightly hazy, pours deep chestnut-red with 5-10mm pale tan head that holds very well. 3.75/5
S- Subtle, a fruit and some earthy notes 3.25/5
T- It must be the beetroot giving this it’s distinct flavour, it starts slightly fruity and then swiftly about turns into an increasingly dry finish. 3.5/5
M- The finish isn’t hoppy-dry, but has a meatier – and yes probably ‘vegetably’ – depth to it. It’s quite refreshing, and might work better in summer vs winter. 3.5/5
O- Without question one of the most ‘different’ beers I’ve had in a long while. Considering that, and that I’ve pretty ‘trad’ tastes I like it. This one is off-piste enough that I expect it might divide opinion. Not simple to objectively rate, as it’s certainly different. Brewed using corn sugar, hmmm IME that’s not something I associate with quality beer.3.25/5
500ml for £3.95. Bottled 2-Apr/19 BB: Apr/20. Bought from TEARDROP BAR LIMITED ∙ +44 7970 272617 ∙ [email protected] ∙ Unit 22, The Covered Market Market Street Oxford, OX13DZ Lively bottle, store/chill/pour carefully. Trad brown bottle comes in paper wrapper that gives much detail and background.
