Picked up a six at BBC. Poured in a Burnish tulip. Very nice looking hazy gold with a full creamy white head. Nose lifts out mango, melon and resin. Taste agrees and provides a fuller tropical mix; touch of pineapple especially and some nice citrus as well. Resin comes across a bit green. Body is full but a bit to bright and tingly for me. Probably refreshing/ no issue for others. Happily… body carbonation softened nicely to a much smoother feel as beer aired and dropped temp a bit. Overall a very nice Imp IPA.

Notes via stream of consciousness: There's not a lot on the label about this beer other than that it's a double IPA at 7.8% alcohol by volume. It's poured a very hazy golden body beneath a short head of creamy white foam. The aroma is citrusy with white grape or gooseberry, and a touch of grassiness and delicate spice (alcohol?) over a grainy malt base. There's some grapefruit there and it reminds me of some of the beers that were being brewed back in the late 90's and early 2000's. On to the taste... the aroma never lies, well, not usually, and there's a bold citrus component to it. I'm getting grapefruit, orange, and yuzu. It remains a little bit grassy, and it's also pithy and earthy. There's some passion fruit and gooseberry as well. The sweetish malt supports and embelishes the hops but a firm bitterness and spritz of alcohol also help to keep it dry. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the higher end, and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled median carbonation. Both the head retention and lacing could be better but I understand that at 7.8% you're going to have a bit of limitation, and the somewhat softer carbonation level factors into play as well. For me I'd rather have a better mouthfeel than head retention and lacing. The aroma, although not particularly complex, is bright and bold and welcoming, and the taste follows along those lines. It's nicely balanced and rounded and the alcohol has just the right amount of presence that I'm looking for. When I started putting together the scoring for this I thought that maybe I was going a little bit high but after questioning and reviewing each of the components I realized that it's pretty much right on. This is a great double IPA.
