All hail the king! This big, barrel aged, American barleywine has plenty of royal flavor, with notes of American hop bitterness, balanced by caramel sweetness, vanilla aromatics, and whiskey barrel goodness.

A Barleywine…again…a Barleywine!!
Grabbed a Crowler at BBC. Poured into my FW Barrel Works Teku @ 55-60 degrees. I wanted a rich full flavor with more head generation.
Extremely beautiful rich dark mahogany brown pour with gold, burnt orange, red ochre and yellow streaks running through it to light. Filled a glass with a huge plumy off white head, but not unexpectedly drew back and dissipated.
But on subsequent pours it produced a clean 3/4” flat creamy head as if knifed flat. Perfect!
Nose is full with wood, vanilla, hops and caramel. Flavor mirrors. Like the original KW..the hops tend to bring a dry grassy bitterness that may easily work for others, but didn’t swing me away from the candied malty English style I love. I found that with a frig chill after first glass I enjoyed the flavor much more…as was probably intended. So just a matter of brewing expectation and personal bias.
Body is a light to medium smooth light carbonation. Perfectly drinkable and consistent with a nice BW.
Overall. I think the warmer start enhanced the look and nose. But may have hurt the flavor for me. So a slight chilling under (45 degrees really elicited a very tasty brew. Either way the body and mouth feel are very good if a bit light.
I really enjoyed this brew regardless of one or two things I thought were worth noting.
And in a time of brewing shifting away from high octane, hugely flavorful beers… it was a great oasis. Thanks Burnish! Highly recommend others try this bad boy!
