Drank from a 1 pint can
Packaged on: 10/17/2024
Served in a Willi Becher
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for gifting me this can.
The beer poured a crystal clear, golden yellow hue and was topped by a fluffy, bright white, two-finger tall crown that dissolved rather quickly. A fine collar encircled the liquid. A few tiny dots of lacing trickled along the glass. On the second pour, a bit of yeast sneaked into the vessel, clouding the body ever so slightly.
The aroma was really crisp and bright. Big, dry, powdery lager yeast notes dominated initially. Bit of cereal grain character too. Perhaps a hint of sweet, cooked corn as well. All in all, really snappy and clean. Some earthy hop notes emerged as the beer warmed. Later, the hops turned sweeter and fruitier and the beer took on an almost dry hopped character.
The flavor profile was somewhat similar to the aroma but perhaps a bit rougher around the edges at first. Crisp, dry, lager yeast notes again came through strong. Cereal grains were apparent up front. Nice bright lemony notes in the center. Subtle earthy hops appeared here as well. There was an odd, corn-like sweetness on the back end and a faint metallic note in the finish initially, but both dissipated as the beer opened up. Nice lingering leafy hop notes after the swallow. Like with the nose, the hop profile turned juicier and fruitier with time.
The mouthfeel was outstanding. Medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained a super fine but incredibly zippy and prickly, Champagne-like effervescence that tuned pillowy soft as it sat on the palate.
Even as a Connecticut native and frequent visitor to the Hartford area, I had surprisingly never heard of Urban Lodge Brewing Company. This beer however definitely made me take notice of them. Next time I am home visiting family and friends, I definitely have to visit their brewpub.
