Glad to be back here in the Lone Star State as I’m passing through Amarillo and stopped into 806 to see what this coffeehouse was about. Indeed, they had a few of Pondaseta’s offerings in cans and this was good enough to remind me of the brews that populate my neck of the woods!

Golden and muted, this poured more like a Kolsch than an IPA. The head was thin and the lacing even more sparse as the rings got thicker and more defined lower down the pint glass this was served in. Quite full on the palate, the malts on the nose were even more pronounced in the taste as the oats and wheat combined with the Pilsner Malt to give this a soft and soothing scent and plenty to literally snd proverbially chew on. Tons of grapefruit, citrus pith, Jack fruit, and dank berry ensured that this would be complex but at the same time, balanced when all was said and done.

A bit mineral, this was harder than a typical beer of this style although it went down easy with the Azacca having more staying power in the aftertaste. A bit potent, the alcohol was on par with everything going on here. Not a typical New England IPA but guess what - this is Texas, and this beer is a worthy addition to these parts!

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a finger of foamy head that slowly dissipates to a thin ring with some lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and lemon. Taste follows nose.

Gift from globe-trotting friends, who bring me beers from places I'd otherwise might never visit.

Look is straw, light gold color. More murky than hazy. Not what comes to mind for NEIPA; not opaque enough. Minimal to no head, which provided virtually no lacing/legs
Aroma is unsurprisingly hop-forward, but not the typical in-your-face citrus and dank; it’s fruitier & berry.
Taste has citrus. Mostly subdued, and lingering, grapefruit. Quite different from what might be expected from the aroma. The nearly 7% ABV is well disguised.
The feel is not, nor was it expected to be, a palate cleanser. It’s not thick or overly bitter.
Overall I like the aroma and taste, if only because neither is what you might expect when already knowing the other (aroma doesn't predict the taste, and taste doesn't follow the nose).

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it if I was in the area.

This beer stood out to me in an HEB pick 6 selection shelf. Can is simple but very classy. Left in fridge overnight for that perfect cold pour. I was impressed with the color. Taste is like an agave grapefruit. Orange peels are apparent. Just made me happy as soon as I took that first sip. I’d buy a whole case of this stuff. Not too strong but still packs a decent little punch.
