Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazed orange-yellow color with a one finger head of fluffy white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a moderate sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is light overall, being strongest of a passionfruit smell mixed with some other tropical fruit smells of tangerine, mango, and papaya. Along with these smells comes other aromas of a bready malt smell as well as a bit of grapefruit and lemon.
Taste – The taste begins with a citrus heavy flavor with some sour lemon, tangerine, orange juice, and big grapefruit hop and grapefruit juice like taste. At the same time there is a touch of the tropical fruits and some of the passionfruit that was in the nose. With these, there was also some flavors of grass and herb. The bitter grapefruit gets stronger as the taste advances, all at the expense of some of the sweeter citrus tastes. Toward the end, flavors of a bit malty bread and some lime come to the tongue, with all the flavor transitions producing a rather citrus heavy and slightly bitter and sour taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is slightly higher. For the bitter and slightly sour citrus tastes of the brew the feel is good and makes for a nice sipper.
Overall – A slightly more sour and bitter citrus heavy IPA. Overall a fun brew to try.
