This porter has been a delight to drink. I have been saving this last can to the last minute to enjoy it. Using a belcher glass, I served it at 50 degrees. The pour created a frothy two-fingered light tan head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left bits of lacing on the glass, charting the color somewhere around SRM 22 dark brown with ruby hues. The clarity is opaque, and no carbonation is visible. The appearance is about average for this style.
Nosing the glass, I smell vanilla, dark roasted coffee, medium chocolate, molasses, hints of floral, toasted bread, dark roasted malts, and earthiness.
The flavors are dark roasted coffee, earthiness, floral esters, dark roasted malts, slight smokiness, a touch of char, vanilla, medium dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, and grassy.
The mouthfeel has a smidge of dark malt astringency. The body is medium, has medium carbonation, and a lasting finish.
This is fantastic Porter. Everything in the beer does not overpower each other: easy sipper and a must-try.
