Who doesn't love a beer brewed in Texas that feels like it came from Florida? That was the case with this curiosity from Pondaseta that I recently ordered on Tavour as I can't say that I've ever had anything like this before. I love anything with key lime in it and it was certainly in full force here as this felt like something that I would have picked up ad Buc-cee's!
Muted, golden, and dare I say, slightly light green in tinge, this was topped off with a full, whipped key lime head that was full of bubbles and life as I can't say that I've ever had anything that looked like this. Loads of key lime pie, yeast and lactose in the nose as the light graham cracker, acetate, and citrus pith came through in the taste. Plenty tangy, slightly gritty, and light on the palate, the feel was like champagne as the bubbles were here in view and on the palate as they never let up. Only a bit of fine and dark sediment had to be swirled out of the can as this nearly exploded well before I cracked it open.
Would have been nice to see when this was canned as there wasn't a date anywhere to be seen but this was still good enough to take me back to the Sunshine State, or to the place in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood that was know for their key lime pies. This had the feel of lemon meringue pie down to the whipped egg whites and cream topping and bright citrus undertone that held it's own. Had I bought another can, I would have cracked it open after finishing this off since I doubt I'll have anything like this anytime soon. Easily one of the most unique examples of the style out there!
