Inside the Glenside brew pub, it arrived in a clear pint glass after being drawn from a tap. Its color is pretty, dark copper-amber, bright and relatively translucent. The aroma is malty with, as described on the menu, a nice clean hop bitterness. It may not be the richest flavored marzen you'll try, but this does get a malt/hop balance just right. Maybe purists of the style will consider this just a little too hoppy, but it's not. Also what it's not is too sweet, the most common fault with some marzens. Ways' Oktoberfest nails the taste, at least for a drinker that likes beer in general. But, it goes a little too lightly across the tongue, unusual for something with satisfactory flavor. There was never a head, nor was there any glass lacing. Overall, the flavor and lightness of its body makes this readily drinkable. That makes it worthwhile, even if it's not amongst the best.
