Captivating and approachable, like The Great One himself. This pale ale has a perfectly balanced caramel body, turned up with pronounced orange citrus notes for a crisp, clean finish.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Fortinos purchase for $3.20 CDN.
Appearance - aggressive pour yields nearly three fingers of dense and fluffy white head, resting on top of a light brown / copper brew with a fair amount of haze. Nice spidery lacing left behind.
Smell - Fruit forward indeed with apples and pears leading the way hints of grape must lurking behind. I get a trace of orange as well.
Taste - Light and quite fruity, apples, pears maybe plums and hints of grape making up a tasty fruit combo. Plenty of grain and middling bitterness follow all that up so it's pretty balanced.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, maybe a touch on the light side initially but feels heavier in the aftertaste if that's possible. Carbonation is appropriate and finishes off-dry.
Overall - Not a truly bitter beer, kind of like a fruit heavy crossing of a blonde ale with a pale ale that is more hop forward and this is what you get. That makes a pair of good brews out of Gretzky's brewery, so while it doesn't hold a candle to his playing career (need to be Rochefort 10 level of beer there) for an easy summer quaff No. 99 Pale Ale gets the job done.

Clear gold with a thick, rocky head. Mild grainy malt nose, some floral hops. Light-medium caramel malt body, very mild flavours. Good crispness.

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Jan 28 2020 and served barely chilled.
Pours crystal clear and golden-yellow, topped with nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that falls apart within two minutes or so. Its remains include a tight collar and some filmy wisps on the surface; the glass has also been draped with a messy swath of lacing. Looks good, but the nose is subtle at best, and that's being kind - I'm getting faint hints of grainy malts and honeyed sweetness, with touches of orange and earthy hops.
This pale ale is tasty and quite approachable, starting things off with bready, grainy pale malts and a lightly caramelized sugar note. Hoppier flavours of orange and spicy, slightly floral bitterness develop later on, concluding with a pleasant, balanced aftertaste that melds citrus, floral hops and lingering pale malt graininess. Light in body, with firm carbonation that remains lively well into the glass, prickling and prodding the tongue while creating a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. Tossing this one back was easy, and I could've easily gone for another.
Final Grade: 3.77, a B+. I wouldn't necessarily call No. 99 Pale Ale 'the Great One' of Ontario pale ales, but if you're looking for a wholesome, serviceable lunch pail ale then you could do far, far worse - especially at less than $3.00/tallboy. I wouldn't go out of my way for more, but on the other hand this might actually be my favourite product from these guys so far, slightly outpacing their decent Rye Lager... so I'd certainly say it's worth taking a flyer on.

Nice looking beer, pours gold in colour with a reasonable head. Smell is sweet and hoppy, a bit metallic. The taste is sweet, I detect orange and maybe a bit of banana?? This is a good beer to sample because it’s a bit different than other APAs and it shows how unique beers can be even in a prescribed style
